On Pré you can see what your name looks like in hieroglyphs (the first is Irma, the second Morgaine):

Morgaine in hieroglyphs

Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116 (pronounced "Albin") was a name given to a Swedish child by his parents in May 1996. Isaac Praise-God Barebone was a deeply religious preacher, and he named his son Hath Christ Not Died for Thee Thou Wouldst Be Damned Barebone. The son later changed his name to Nicholas Barbon. Guess Irma is a whole lot better, although … according to Kabalarian Philosophy:

Though the name Irma creates the urge to be creative and original, we call attention to the challenge of controlling temper as a result of a highly intense, dissatisfied, and restless quality. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses or accidents to the head, worry and mental tension.

Your first name of Irma has given you energy, drive, and ambition, but also an almost excessively strong-willed and independent nature. While you are creative, inventive, and ingenious in practical matters, and always ready to initiate and promote new undertakings, you often experience difficulty in bringing your undertakings to a successful conclusion because of your own changing interests or changing circumstances.

The meaning of Irma is not clear. The girl's name Irma i-rma, ir-ma is pronounced IR-ma. It is of Old German origin, and its meaning is "universal, complete". Short form of names like Ermintrude. Irma has 6 variant forms: Erma, Ermengard, Irmina, Irmine, Irmgard and Irmgarde. Irma is also said to have a Latin origin, meaning "nobel". In Sanskrit the meaning is "movement, wind". In the West it is seen as a feminine name though as a Hindu name it is exclusively male and mentioned as an alternative name for Surya. Also see Wikipedia's entry for Irma (name).

Finally, What's in a Name? is the story of some body modification enthusiasts who have changed their names.

QotD: Also Known As

What other names did your parents consider for you?

If I had been a boy, I would have been called Harry, or Henry. There was this deal: the first born would be named after the maternal grandmother (for a girl) or the paternal grandfather (for a boy). The second born would have been named after the paternal grandmother if female, the maternal grandfather if male. Of course, by the time my brother was born, there was no such system in place anymore. Otherwise he would have been called Adrie, Adriaan, or something similar.

Finding a way to break through the downward spiral of depression. Finding reasons to stay alive. Finding rest. And balance. And a sense of belonging. And acceptance of all the wrongs that have been done to me, since childhood. Finding a way not to feel guilty about being abused. And acceptance. Of myself.

What do you do to ensure you get a good night's sleep?
Submitted by Jacob’s Ladder.

I haven't had a good night's sleep in years. And believe me, I've tried a lot. Except for sleeping pills. Never ever want to take pills. I counted sheep and numerous other items, I've tried breathing exercises, hot milk, an evening walk, making love, alcohol, visualising a peaceful place, … Insomnia is one of my curses I guess.

Would you rather go back in time or visit the future?
Submitted by Auds.

"Some people experiment with 'past life regression'. Using hypnotherapy or some other tool for entering a trance they gain vivid impressions of other people, at other times, leading other lives. They feel that what they are seeing is happening to them. Is it imagination? Is it a kind of telepathy that travels over time? Is it a genuine glimpse of a previous existence? Whatever it is, it is of novelty value only. It's who you are in this life that matters – and who you are about to become."

My horoscope for today seems to suggest I should be visiting the future *grin*

QotD: My Holiday Wish List

In Too lazy to assign a category on December 14, 2006 at 5:13 pm

What's on your holiday wish list?

I don't really have a holiday wish list. I do have a wish list, but it's an all year round thing. I keep my wishlist at The Things I Want, even though I'm not entirely satisfied with the format. It does allow me to add things from any shop though. Theoretically I don't need to have any other wishlist.

I also downloaded the Firefox add-on from Metawishlist, and I have an account there, but I haven't used it that much yet.
