Invitation to join me

In Too lazy to assign a category on August 22, 2007 at 9:23 am

LOST is a student project that aims to show how 7 million people can connect to each other. It's also a game, and is trying to reach the highest number of players for any game, ever.

To play LOST you have to find an invitation. An invitation is an internet address. There are invitations on the internet, and in the real world. They could be anywhere – on web pages, inside book covers, written in chalk on a pavement or across a beach in the sand.

Curious? Let me invite you then. Be fast though, there are only 2 days left.

light, smoke, pillow, whipped, chat

In Too lazy to assign a category on July 23, 2007 at 8:30 pm

The light was dimmed, he sat down to smoke a cigarette. He was thinking about the chat he had earlier on with that strange woman. She was a fascinating creature yet slightly frightening. They had been chatting for several weeks now and he would love to meet her in real life. Unfortunately this was something he could only dream about, at night on his pillow, or even during the day. Thoughts about her had developed the habit of popping up regularly lately. He thought about her and indulged in fantasies.

Now he wouldn’t talk to her for three days. She would be absent. Had things to do. Places to go. He missed their conversations already. When he told her so, she said he shouldn’t act like a little drama queen. She said otherwise she wouldn’t want to talk to him on her return. The thought of that made his entire being ache. Fortunately she had accepted his elaborate apologies.

He tried to look at the bright side. She had been as kind as to give him some tasks to perform. His intention was to make her proud of him. He hoped he would be able to live up to her expectations. The tasks were rather simple. But he knew it was of the uttermost importance he fulfilled them to her satisfaction. She had made it very clear she wouldn’t bear talking to him anymore in case he failed.

And as a reward, if he did well, he would be allowed to talk to her over the phone. The thought of her sweet voice made his knees tremble. No doubt her voice could be harsh when displeased but he just knew she would have an angelic voice. She was like a Goddess. Everything was perfect about her. He couldn’t imagine a woman more beautiful, more intelligent, more witty, more just, more …

Oohwww, to be her servant, the chosen one to please her in everything she would desire. To be the one to clean her house, wash her clothes, shine her shoes or comb her hair. The lucky one to be corrected when making mistakes. To feel her eyes follow him around. To watch his every move. To know her guidance and tenderness, to hear the sound of being spanked or whipped for being ignorant and stubborn.

He already was absolutely sure that would be the ultimate honour and he was prepared to do anything in order to achieve that utter bliss. He knew the road was long and certainly would be bumpy but happily and slightly impatiently he started his first task to perform. He would be a good boy and she would be proud …

You get 5 words and with these 5 words you have to write an entry. The words might or might not be related. You decide how to combine them, and how long your entry will be. You tag your entry with 5wordchallenge and whatever other tags you like. Finally, you put the words in bold. This week's challenge: light, smoke, pillow, whipped, chat. In one week the challenge will be passed on to someone who participated in this one, hosted by me.

What color is your soul painted?

Your soul is painted the color purple, which embodies the characteristics of sensuality, spirituality, creativity, wealth, royalty, nobility, mystery, enlightenment, arrogance, gaudiness, mourning, confusion, pride, delicacy, power, meditation, religion, and ambition. Purple falls under the element of Earth, and was once a European symbol of royalty; today it symbolizes the divine.

8 random things about me

In Too lazy to assign a category on June 22, 2007 at 4:18 pm

Quite a while ago, I got tagged by random butter, but never actually got to posting. Previously I answered 80 questions, or 31 questions, I posted 5 things, several random tidbits, some sort of introductory article, or 49 things about me (just a bunch of tests really). How hard can it be to write down just 8 more things? Apparently harder than it should be.

Perhaps it's because right now I feel exhausted, not having slept well recently (mmm … recently? it's a recurrent thing), caught in pre – during – post birthday depressing feelings, and fed up with … well, never mind. I wasn't tagged to whine for 8 paragraphs or anything.

Let's try:

  1. I once found someone dead. A young man, not even in his twenties. He lived in the apartment building I used to live.
  2. I tried to save someone from a cocaine addiction (not the above mentionded guy), but failed. I brought him to the hospital several times, I took care of him when he went to rehab, visiting him each and every day. I put up with his lies, and promises. Sometimes he seemed to be doing better, but always he fell back. At a certain point I decided I really couldn't help him. It hurt.
  3. I used to have a babysitter that died on the soccer field from a heart attack, at age thirtysomething, leaving behind a wife and two small children.
  4. I've often contemplated suicide, but never found the courage.
  5. I am often torn between several contradicting thoughts, options or possibilities.
  6. I wanted to play ice hockey but my mom didn't let me.
  7. I wish I could live in an alternate society with the people I love or think I love (both online and offline). Get some land, and construct some form of community from scratch. Slow food, high tech and with plenty of possibilities for all to explore.
  8. I am able to feel deeply for someone I've never met face to face (well, not yet anyway) and to me that's not a weird thing at all.

Book meme

In Too lazy to assign a category on May 24, 2007 at 8:47 pm

I got tagged by thedharmablues.

Total number of books owned:

Frankly, I've got no idea. A whole lot. I've never counted them, there's no catalogue either. I tried Library Thing, and I tried Shelfari, but those don't work for me. Most of my books aren't in English. Now Library Thing has a feature that let's you import books from Vox, but frankly, it sucks. I tried it, and I don't know whose books they imported but they sure as hell weren't mine. I might not have good taste, but I certainly have better taste than the person that seemed to love 'romantic' crap, and occult / vampire / science fiction litter.

So I can't give you a number. Best I can do is show you part of a bookshelf:

Last book bought:

I actually bought several books at once.  The first one was 'Daughter of Agadir', by Ouarda Saillo.

I bought this book in Dutch. I'll translate the first paragraph:

My mother died September 19th, 1979, at 10 in the morning. My father killed her on the roof of our house in Agadir. He punded a knife in her belly, dragged her up the stairs, tied her to a ladder, stuffed her mouth with sand, poored fuel on her and set her on fire. My moter was 29 years old and 7 months pregnant when she died. I was 5.

Stout (naughty) is a book about 'flirting, success, power, lingerie and erotica'.

This book by Ann-Marie MacDonald is available in English, titled Fall On Your Knees.

A book to read on the tram, in English: To Speak For The Dead.

A book on Mind Mapping by Peter Weiler.

Last book read:

Smilla's Sense of Snow by Peter Høeg.

Five books that mean a lot to me:

Le Petit Prince
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

House of Leaves: The Remastered Full-Color Edition
Mark Z. Danielewski

The Mists of Avalon
Marion Zimmer Bradley

Poèmes et Chansons
Georges Brassens
