LOST is a student project that aims to show how 7 million people can connect to each other. It's also a game, and is trying to reach the highest number of players for any game, ever.

To play LOST you have to find an invitation. An invitation is an internet address. There are invitations on the internet, and in the real world. They could be anywhere – on web pages, inside book covers, written in chalk on a pavement or across a beach in the sand.

Curious? Let me invite you then. Be fast though, there are only 2 days left.

On Prénoms.com you can see what your name looks like in hieroglyphs (the first is Irma, the second Morgaine):

Irma in hieroglyphs

Morgaine in hieroglyphs

Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb11116 (pronounced "Albin") was a name given to a Swedish child by his parents in May 1996. Isaac Praise-God Barebone was a deeply religious preacher, and he named his son Hath Christ Not Died for Thee Thou Wouldst Be Damned Barebone. The son later changed his name to Nicholas Barbon. Guess Irma is a whole lot better, although … according to Kabalarian Philosophy:

Though the name Irma creates the urge to be creative and original, we call attention to the challenge of controlling temper as a result of a highly intense, dissatisfied, and restless quality. This name, when combined with the last name, can frustrate happiness, contentment, and success, as well as cause health weaknesses or accidents to the head, worry and mental tension.

Your first name of Irma has given you energy, drive, and ambition, but also an almost excessively strong-willed and independent nature. While you are creative, inventive, and ingenious in practical matters, and always ready to initiate and promote new undertakings, you often experience difficulty in bringing your undertakings to a successful conclusion because of your own changing interests or changing circumstances.

The meaning of Irma is not clear. The girl's name Irma i-rma, ir-ma is pronounced IR-ma. It is of Old German origin, and its meaning is "universal, complete". Short form of names like Ermintrude. Irma has 6 variant forms: Erma, Ermengard, Irmina, Irmine, Irmgard and Irmgarde. Irma is also said to have a Latin origin, meaning "nobel". In Sanskrit the meaning is "movement, wind". In the West it is seen as a feminine name though as a Hindu name it is exclusively male and mentioned as an alternative name for Surya. Also see Wikipedia's entry for Irma (name).

Finally, What's in a Name? is the story of some body modification enthusiasts who have changed their names.

8 random things about me

In Too lazy to assign a category on June 22, 2007 at 4:18 pm

Quite a while ago, I got tagged by random butter, but never actually got to posting. Previously I answered 80 questions, or 31 questions, I posted 5 things, several random tidbits, some sort of introductory article, or 49 things about me (just a bunch of tests really). How hard can it be to write down just 8 more things? Apparently harder than it should be.

Perhaps it's because right now I feel exhausted, not having slept well recently (mmm … recently? it's a recurrent thing), caught in pre – during – post birthday depressing feelings, and fed up with … well, never mind. I wasn't tagged to whine for 8 paragraphs or anything.

Let's try:

  1. I once found someone dead. A young man, not even in his twenties. He lived in the apartment building I used to live.
  2. I tried to save someone from a cocaine addiction (not the above mentionded guy), but failed. I brought him to the hospital several times, I took care of him when he went to rehab, visiting him each and every day. I put up with his lies, and promises. Sometimes he seemed to be doing better, but always he fell back. At a certain point I decided I really couldn't help him. It hurt.
  3. I used to have a babysitter that died on the soccer field from a heart attack, at age thirtysomething, leaving behind a wife and two small children.
  4. I've often contemplated suicide, but never found the courage.
  5. I am often torn between several contradicting thoughts, options or possibilities.
  6. I wanted to play ice hockey but my mom didn't let me.
  7. I wish I could live in an alternate society with the people I love or think I love (both online and offline). Get some land, and construct some form of community from scratch. Slow food, high tech and with plenty of possibilities for all to explore.
  8. I am able to feel deeply for someone I've never met face to face (well, not yet anyway) and to me that's not a weird thing at all.

I'm happy Irma Thomas showed up first. She is a very strong woman.

Of course, female vampire Irma Vep is damn funny:

Also note the pronunciation of the name Irma in the Irma Vep vid. Most English speaking people pronounce it all wrong, as in:

Finally, I love these old movies, such as:
