These 5” stiletto heels are entirely metal, fabricated by hand, with a cast heel. The straps open and close on hinges, and the shoes lock onto the feet. When I made these, I was considering popular ideas regarding beauty, particularly the idea that “pain is beauty, beauty is pain.” I’m honestly amazed at women who choose to wear stiletto heels on a regular basis. One must “learn” how to walk in such heels, and it remains difficult and uncomfortable. Over time, high heels can cause serious damage and permanently restructure the leg. This pair of shoes acts as a pair of handcuffs, binding the wearer, although it is unclear who will hold the keys.

I’m also interested in the use of high heels as a sort of armor for women, in which, for instance, a businesswoman might don them to provide herself with additional height, a sexualized stance and gait, and a feeling of power over men.

Burning Ring of Fire

Love is a burning thing
and it makes a firery ring
bound by wild desire
I fell in to a ring of fire…

The taste of love is sweet
when hearts like our's meet
I fell for you like a child
oh, but the fire went wild.

I fell in to a burning ring of fire
I went down,down,down
and the flames went higher.
And it burns,burns,burns

the ring of fire

the ring of fire.

Espresso Gelées

In Too lazy to assign a category on January 31, 2007 at 5:41 pm

Category:     Beverages
Style:     Other

Description:
Quartet of Espresso Gelées with Curry, Lavender, Star Anise and Fennel

Ingredients:

For the Coffee Gelée:
1 cup freshly-brewed espresso
1 cup boiling water
1/4 cup cold water
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup brandy or other liquor (optional)
2 teaspoons powdered gelatin

For the Spiced Cream:
2 cups heavy cream
1/4 cup sugar or mild honey
1/8 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon dried lavender
1 star anise
1 teaspoon fennel seeds

Directions:
Soften the gelatin in 1/4 cup cold water for 1 minute. Combine with the espresso, boiling water and sugar in a large bowl and stir until the sugar and gelatin have both dissolved. If things have cooled too much by this point for this to happen, heat it gently in a saucepan until there are no granules left. Add the brandy (if using), and do one of two things: either spoon the mixture into individual cups or bowls, or else keep it all in one bowl, and then put it in the fridge to chill for several hours.

In the meantime, using a clean coffee grinder grind the lavender, star anise and fennel separately. Reserve.

When the gelées have set, whip the cream with the sugar or honey. Separate the cream into four bowls; into each portion fold in one of the reserved spices. If you've chilled the gelée in one bowl, spoon it out now into individual cups or bowls. Top each portion of gelee with one spoonful of each of the differently-spiced creams. Or you could serve four communal bowls containing the gelee and different creams, and let people help themselves to the flavors they like.

Sylph

Sylph

You are a Sylph!

The sylphs are the air spirits. Their element has
the highest vibratory rate of the four (beside
earth, fire, water). They live hundreds of
years, often reaching one thousand and never
seeming to get old. They are said to live on
the tops of mountains. The leader of the sylphs
is a being called Paralda who is said to dwell
on the highest mountain of Earth.

Sylphs often assume human form but only for short
periods of time. They vary in size and can be as
large as a human. They are volatile and
changeable. The winds are their particular
vehicle. The work through the gases and ethers
of the Earth and are kindly toward humans.
Slyphs are usually seen with wings, looking
like cherubs or fairies.

Because of their
connection to air, which is associated with the
mental aspect, one of their functions is to
help humans receive inspiration. The sylphs are
drawn to those who use their minds,
particularly those in creative arts.

What do people see

In Too lazy to assign a category on January 31, 2007 at 11:22 am

HASH(0x8c52680)

People see you as a friendly and popular
individual. You tend to look on the bright side
of things and have many friends. Your
leadership skills and popularity are attractive
to others. Some may be a little intimidated by
you at first, but in the end your carefree
attitude usually wins them over. Just make sure
you don't put your friends in front of
yourself.

What do people see in you?
